The last couple years have seen the sport/hobby/pastime of kayaking reach levels of popularity not seen before. People of all ages are interesting in trying it out, but some have some reservations or questions about physical requirements and preparation.

We have had paddlers from the ages of 5 – 85 years old. On the younger end, the kids usually ride in the front of the tandem with a parent piloting the kayak from the back seat. Depending on the child’s size and ability, they can start kayaking in their own boat around the ages of 10-12, but we did have an experienced 9 year old go out with no problem.

The older first-time paddlers we get usually lament the fact that they waited so long to get out on the water and wish they would have tried it much sooner.

Here are some of the most asked questions we get at Kayak Lake Worth:

What should I bring?

Water, sunscreen and a hat is highly recommended. Wear clothing that you are comfortable getting wet and shoes that can be worn in the water to avoid cutting your feet on oyster shells. Any bags or coolers that you bring should be small, and remember, it will get wet!

Will I get wet?

Yes, you will most likely get at least a little damp. Weather conditions and paddling styles can contribute to the level of wetness. (The 10 ft and tandem kayaks do have drainage holes that allow some water in the kayak.)

What kind of Kayaks do you use?

Kayak Lake Worth rents open, sit-on-top kayaks. While non-traditional, this style opens up the world of kayaking to those who otherwise may not be able to maneuver in a classic kayak. This design results in a more stable boat not prone to tipping.

Are there size limitations?

Yes, the maximum weights allowable are as follows:

10 ft kayaks, maximum weight allowable is 230 lbs.

12 ft kayaks, maximum weight allowable is 300 lbs.

Tandem kayak, maximum total weight is 400 lbs.

Stand-Up Paddleboards (SUPs) maximum weight allowable is 210 lbs.

Can I just walk in without reserving a kayak?

No, we are a mobile Kayak and SUP outfitter. This means that we take advance reservations for your rental or tour. We do our best to accommodate last minute rentals,  but availability is not guaranteed.

Are there Alligators?

The Lake Worth Lagoon is a saltwater estuary and Alligators live in freshwater environments, but there are reports of Alligators in saltwater environments – even the ocean. We have never received a report of an Alligator sighting in the Snook Islands or the Bingham Islands.

Kayaking is a fun family sport that can be enjoyed by most ages and skill levels. You can read more of the top questions and answers on our FAQ Page at www.KayakLakeWorth.com. You can also call us between 8AM and 6PM, seven days per week at 561.225.8250.

Kayak Lake Worth offers a number of trips designed to appeal to everyone. From the casual paddler, to more adventurous types, there is a kayak trip for you. We provide all gear and make sure you have the basic skills necessary for maneuvering your kayak or stand-up paddleboard. Please be aware that you and anything you bring along will get wet and the kayaks and sups have a limited storage area. We do provide a small dry box suitable for keys, cell phone, wallet, etc.

Our 2.5 hour rentals are the most popular option. You have the choice of touring either the Snook Islands in Lake Worth or the Bingham Islands which lie just west of the island of Palm Beach. Rental time includes pre-launch procedures such as any necessary instruction and route information. We also make sure to include plenty of time for taking in the sights, bird watching, taking photos or just bobbing along on the currents. Tidal and weather conditions do play a part and may be a factor as to when your chosen area is available to paddle.

For those looking for more time out on the water, we also offer 4 hour rentals. Those renting fishing kayaks most often opt for the 4 hour rental. Kayakers just out for a paddle use the time to venture past the Snook or Bingham Islands out to John’s Island, the Ibis Isle Restoration area and Hunter’s Island. One way trips between the Snook and Binghams are often done during a 4 hour rental. Either you can arrange to be picked up and driven back to your car at the point of origin, or you can have us shuttle you back. The 4 hour kayak rental is also great for exploring Lake Osborne.

Kayak Lake Worth full day rentals are 8 hours. Most of our full day rentals are drop-offs for those living on a local body of water or for those fishing. Others do a roundtrip loop that brings them through the Snook Islands, Bingham Islands, Ibis Isle Restoration area, John’s Island and Hunters Island for an approximately 9.5 mile paddle.

Our kayak and stand-up paddleboard rentals and tours are available by reservation only.
